There is a great collaboration and support from SAP peers and colleagues on the project. Everyone I work with is hard working and intelligent, knowing their area of expertise to support. I feel the appreciation from management and colleagues. Good benefits and advancement opportunities
SAP acquired out company 10 or 11 years ago. We were slowly assimilated into their culture. They pretty much left us alone to continue to function as we had done prior to the acquisition. Overall it was a decent experience.
Subsidized lunches. Autonomous work environment.
The quality of an engineering experience at SAP is entirely dependent on board-level politics, and SAP's executive board is chaotic at best. When things are going right, a good team has more opportunities to do challenging, interesting, and novel work than at any other large company I've worked at. The downside is, a board-level coup could happen at any time, and all of your hard work might be abruptly thrown away. Work-life balance is unusually good, and while the perks aren't quite at the Google level, they're pretty good. There are internal labs where you can get involved in cutting edge research, and they're generally open to anyone who shows both interest and aptitude. None of this highly-publicized 20% that doesn't really exist; this is straight up fit-it-in-where-you-can blue sky stuff.
Lots of opportunities to do interesting things
Chaotic, not great compensation
I was presented with a lot of technical challenges, and offered many chances to work on something new over the long period of my employment with SAP (coming via a couple smaller company acquisitions). I would definitely work for SAP again if the opportunity arises.
A lot has changed in the past few years at Concur, now SAP Concur. Its startup culture has gradually given way to the culture that is more generally SAP, and some people who have enjoyed those earlier days have moved on, but the people who remain are the company's best assets. You are working with some of the best development teams that you will find anywhere, and it is a rich blend of cultural diversity. There are still many growth opportunities and the benefits are good, and there are still some fun elements to the culture, but the early sense of adventure and the work hard/play hard values has yielded to more of a scaled corporate orthodoxy. While the compensation is largely competitive, in the Bellevue office it is balanced out by one of the highest cost-of-living areas in the Pacific Northwest, so it's beneficial to consider the overall value.
Good growth opportunities, A chance to work with one of the world's largest software companies, Many positions have the opportunity to telecommute occasionally, Good support for telecommuting alternatives, Working with the many of the latest technologies and frameworks, Walking distance to parks; shopping malls; a museum and botanical garden; and many dining choices.
The Bellevue office--like much of Seattle--is in an area with a high cost of living, Parking is limited and expensive, Expect long commute times outside of Bellevue coming from the North or South.
Nice work culture. They provide proper training and everything is well documented and maintained. Perfect work life balance. Employees get a lot of facilities like free lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, fully air conditioned bus facility etc.
