Best part of job is sense of accomplishment in helping customers and colleagues. Always learning about products and customers. Following-up on resolution of problems can be tedious.
Following-up on resolution of problems can be tedious.
I spent two summers as an intern at SAP America's Headquarters in Newtown Square, PA while completing my Bachelor's degree. The IT Assistant position was excellent for gaining hands on experience with technical end-user support in a fast-paced, large scale multinational company. Additionally, weekly new-hire orientation was valuable to experience large-scale computer imaging practices as well as the demonstration and teaching of SAP software to new employees.
Depending on your role at SAP... if you're a Sales Exec, your job is only as secure as your last quarter. If you're a consultant, your competition is within your team. If you're an Engineer, your competition is if you can be the innovator. If you can't, you can follow or be run over. Following only lasts so long.
Deeply subsidized health care, many other perks
highly stressful - be on point, all the time.
SAP is a very fast paced environment, I learned a lot and enjoyed working . The management style is good. The company gives free lunches , free gym and great health benefits since its a global company. You are allowed to work remotely once a week and they are flexible with their schedules as long as you make up your hours.
Free lunches, you can work remotely, flexible, great benefits
they have been outsourcing a lot of departments
When I started I worked with a great team of people. I am able to work remotely as needed. They offer unlimited training, but it's making time for the training offered that is the problem. The team I am currently on there is a lot of reaction instead of proactive so that causes having workloads with several time sensitive deadlines. Great benefit package and salary is decent.
work remotely, free lunch, exposure to several cultures
Almost daily time sensitive deadlines
Working in culinary department was okay. Not much career advancement. you advance if they think you should advance, not based on skills or time. Many have worked there in same position for years and not given opportunity because of many reasons you can think of.
good time schedule
Wonderful leadership and culture, especially within the F&A board area. Very matrixed and complex place to work but very rewarding. Expect frequent change in systems and processes, mostly because SAP likes being its own reference customer for SAP's new products.
As with many large organization, your experience will vary and teams can appear uncoordinated. Overall, there is a great culture and good benefits with potential for growth. If you are seeing issues with the direction of your current role or team, it may be time to switch roles.
Managing support delivery for several assigned customers. Friendly supportive colleagues. Most managers are good. Quarterly bottom-line focus interferes with smooth operations.
Subsidized lunches at offices. Remote work from home fine.
SAP treats contractors very poorly. Forcing unpaid time off for hundreds of contractors at the end of budget cycle to save money. Information is very guarded towards contractors. The managers overly micro manage every little thing you do. On the other hand the full time employees are treated extremely well.
Great WLB and Benefits for Full Timers
Bad for Contractors
Working for SAP was a very rewarding place to work. Here is where I learned my skills in Excel and Inventory Management. The managers that I worked for were top notched they were looking out for their employees and made sure that when ever possible they had al the tools and responsibility to do the jobs that they were tasked to do.
The culture is mostly reflects as European as SAP is German company. But, that does not necessarily translate to every aspect for the U.S.A. The company is very employee centric. The work life balance is something that can be improved. No one in the company is 'disconnected' at any time as one is expected to respond or reply to calls or mails at all hours. Though there is job security the advancement part is not always based on if the person is the right one as it could be on how well your connected as there pockets of groups where only certain people as allowed & they seem to be ones chosen or favored!
Lunch subsidized, free gym, Christmas parties, summer picnic
